Raed El Khazen
Beirut-born Raed El-Khazen is a seasoned, versatile guitarist who has accumulated a global portfolio over the past 20 years. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1996-1999 where he weaved life- long relationships that shaped who he would become as an artist. This lead him to move to New York, where he spent 10 years playing, recording, and touring with a multitude of artists. In 2009 Raed returned to Lebanon to focus on production. His concept was an extension of his search on his instrument: to create a contemporary sound that is true to your geographical roots and not a juxtaposition of cultures, but a product of their natural integration. He is credited for some of the most innovative sounds coming out of the region and has played a pivotal role in the growing independent alternative scene, namely: Mashrou’ Leila, Tanjaret Daghet, Hello Psychaleppo, Project Seer (TBR 2016), Ahmad and Ingrid (TBR 2016). In mid-2015, Raed finally felt ready to return to his instrument. His experience in production gives him a unique understanding of the idiosyncrasies of the process, lending a special interpretation of sound and space as a guitarist. His innovative approach to playing different genres of music from this space of integration creates a signature sound and style, and can be heard in the upcoming album “Ghosts and Shadows” (to be released November 2016). Believing strongly in the power of music as community and an endeavor in co-creation, he has continued to work on projects with local and international musicians and producers. His extensive collaborations, and his versatility and appreciation of the art of music, have rendered him a unique guitar player; engaging listeners with infinite possibilities in the now.
