UGO is a new Pop artist that embarks on a fresh musical journey with boldness and creativity. Architect, photographer and musician, Ugo was born in Mendoza, Argentina, and lived in Germany, Mexico and Dubai, before coming back to Buenos Aires to produce his first album DECONSTRUCCIÓN, a modern love letter to tango, coming in November 2020. The first single is “El Día que me Quieras”, released along a music video. “El Día que me Quieras” is a re-imagination of the classic tango, written by Alfredo Le Pera and composed by the legendary Carlos Gardel, representing at its utmost the emblematic “tanguero”. In this contemporary version, UGO combines the lyrics and the melody with beats, synthesizers and a quintet, to create a unique blend between the tango and the bolero infused with electro and moombahton sounds. The song’s original and emotional impact is still there but he takes it to a modern and seductive space. According to UGO, “It is one of the most romantic songs that exist in the Latin world, a timeless classic”. “What drove me to produce a new version was the challenge that it enticed, in bringing it back to life through new sounds and yet paying tribute to the original”. Ugo recounts that “the creative process started with an investigation by listening to all the previous versions, from the original one, sang by Gardel himself (1935), to the likes of powerhouses such as Luis Miguel, Gloria Estefan, and many more”. Then he adds that “what about now? How can we listen or re-discover that mesmerizing song in 2020 without losing its essence and yet producing new sounds”. The song is complemented with a music video, shot during the quarantine due to Covid-19, where the main protagonists are Mother nature and the languages of the genderless bodies…dancing, in black and white, to its rhythm. “El Día que me Quieras” is the first single of his album debut DECONSTRUCCIÓN, coming to life in 2020. Regarding his approach to producing it, UGO explains that: “Deconstrucción is my way to dissemble in order to re-assemble a new piece of music by twisting its elements”. He wants to break with the typical clichés and stereotypes associated with classical tango, and offer it a kind of re-birth into a new persona. It’s the encounter between what is classic with the contemporary, to create Pop through tango!” DECONSTRUCCION A musical POP album, that pays tribute to tango, with a modern gaze by infusing contemporary and cosmopolitan sounds; and with the involvement of a team of DJ’s, producers of pop music and a classical composer, it took shape in a new format to still celebrate those classics. What has been written, almost a century ago, still echoes today; and the challenge was to break free from the conventional approach, and re-interpret it by deconstructing the traditional “tanguero”, to create a new identity that fits 2020 and our time, in a message of inclusion and integration towards the future. DECONSTRUCCIÓN consists of 7 songs carefully selected, that keeps the original lyrics and melodies; re-imagining them with different rhythms, while exploring different sounds: pop, trap, urban latino, Caribbean sounds, electro, trip hop and alternative music. DECONSTRUCCIÓN is a celebration of the Argentinian culture through our modern times, in which UGO invites us to experience a sensorial journey through his music.
